Traineeships in hair and beauty

What is a traineeship?

A Traineeship is a training course for young people that includes work experience. It prepares the trainee for work or to progress onto an apprenticeship. Traineeships are designed to give young people the skills, qualifications, experience and behaviours that employers look for when recruiting for apprenticeships and other jobs. Our programme will give you the confidence and skills you'll need to compete in the labour market with more experienced candidates.

Traineeships at IBHA last for six months and offer a high degree of flexibility to allow employers to tailor the training to the needs of individual businesses. Although traineeships are built around similar principles as apprenticeships, Traineeships are not jobs and the young person is not employed meaning the work experience placement is unpaid.

Who are traineeships for?

Traineeships are intended for young people who:

  • Are not currently in employment* and have little or no work experience in their preferred career
  • Are aged 16-24 and have not achieved a full Level 3 qualification or A Levels
  • Have a chance of being ready for employment or an apprenticeship within six months of the traineeship

IBHA Traineeship Programme for 16 – 24 year olds

  • Level 2 Diploma in Beauty Therapy or Level 2 Diploma in Hairdressing which allows the trainee to progress to a Level 3 Apprenticeship or go straight into work
  • Employability skills and job preparation such as CV-writing tips and advice on interview preparation
  • A high-quality work experience placement to help the young person develop the skills needed in the workplace
  • ICT skills as required
  • Help with English and maths for trainees without GCSE grade C/4 or above or Functional Skills at Level 2

*Trainees are allowed to work up to 15 hours per week in another job role during their Traineeship.

What our graduates say

"I’ve recently finished my Level 3 Beauty Therapy apprenticeship and I couldn’t recommend IBHA enough! All the staff are lovely and they're always at the end of the phone if you need support with anything. They have so many additional courses that all the students have the opportunity to take. Jodi and Julie have been amazing and have helped me so much with my self confidence whilst performing a treatment and talking to clients." May 2018
